Connect Your Instagram Business Account

Linking your Instagram Business account lets Selify AI respond to customer DMs, handle product inquiries, and manage virtual try-on requests directly through Instagram.

Prerequisites

Before connecting, ensure you have:

  • A Selify AI account with an active workspace
  • An Instagram Business or Creator account (personal accounts are not supported)
  • A Facebook Business Page linked to your Instagram account
  • Admin access to the Facebook Business Page

Instagram’s API requires a Facebook Business Page connection. If your Instagram account isn’t linked to a Facebook page, follow Instagram’s guide to switching to a Business account.

Connect Your Account

  1. Navigate to Settings > Connected Accounts in your Selify dashboard.
  2. Click Connect Instagram.
  3. You’ll be redirected to Facebook Login. Sign in with the Facebook account that manages your Business Page.
  4. Select the Facebook Page linked to your Instagram Business account.
  5. Select the Instagram Business account you want to connect.
  6. Grant the requested permissions:
    • Read and manage Instagram messages — Allows AI workers to read and respond to DMs
    • Read Instagram profile — Displays your account info in the dashboard
    • Manage Instagram comments — Enables AI responses to post comments (optional)
  7. Click Done to complete the connection.

Configure Messaging

After connecting, set up how your AI workers interact with Instagram customers:

  1. Go to Settings > Bot Configuration.
  2. Enable the bot — Toggle the bot on to start processing incoming messages.
  3. Set a welcome message — This is sent automatically when a customer messages you for the first time. Example: “Hi! Thanks for reaching out. I can help you with product questions, sizing, and virtual try-on. How can I help?”
  4. Configure trigger keywords — Define keywords that activate specific bot behaviors. For example, set “try on” as a trigger to prompt customers to send a photo for virtual try-on.
  5. Set up handoff rules — Define when the bot should escalate to a human agent (e.g., refund requests, complaints).

Test the Integration

Before going live with customers:

  1. Send a DM to your Instagram Business account from a personal account.
  2. Check that the message appears in your Selify dashboard under Messages.
  3. Verify the AI bot responds according to your configuration.
  4. Test virtual try-on by sending a photo with a trigger keyword.

Important Notes

  • Message window — Instagram’s API requires that bot responses are sent within 24 hours of the customer’s last message. Selify AI handles this automatically.
  • Rate limits — Instagram enforces API rate limits. Under normal usage, you won’t hit these limits, but high-volume accounts should monitor the API Health section in Settings.
  • Multiple accounts — You can connect multiple Instagram Business accounts to a single Selify workspace. Each account can have its own bot configuration.
